INSECURE TO LET WOMEN LEAD: PAS’s ulama insists Azizah not suitable

The top chief of PAS’S wing of scholars wants Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim (pic) to remain as Selangor Menteri Besar as the latter is innocent of the charges levelled against him.
Datuk Ahmad Yaakub, who is acting chief of PAS’s Dewan Ulama, also gave two other reasons why PAS could not go along with its allies in Pakatan Rakyat (PR) who want Khalid replaced with PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Ahmad also backed party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang who is under fire from within and outside the party for the latter’s decision not to nominate Dr Wan Azizah in the Selangor MB crisis.
Dr Wan Azizah, said Ahmad, was unsuitable for the post, while the “Kajang move” to install her as a state legislator was a waste of public funds.
Ahmad stated these reasons in the text of his speech which had been distributed at the Dewan Ulama assembly today.
“We praise and stand firm behind Hadi and his steadfastness in upholding Islamic principles despite being pressured by Pakatan Rakyat and our own party’s leaders,” said Ahmad in his speech text.
He did not read this section during his opening speech but PAS officials have verified that it is authentic.
The statement would likely complicate the Selangor menteri besar crisis which started when Khalid was expelled from his party on August 9.
While PKR and DAP want Khalid replaced with Wan Azizah, Hadi had nominated three different leaders and submitted them to the Selangor palace.
Hadi’s move has prolonged the Selangor menteri besar crisis and strained relations with PR. –TMI
