Former Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim had testified that he did not write or see the letter used by his special officer Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri to seek a “donation”.
(FMT) – Former Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim’s special officer, Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri, was jailed for two years by the Court of Appeal on Friday for allegedly cheating businessman Abdul Karim Munisar over a purported RM50,000 donation to sponsor an event.
Justice Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahim, along with Justices Abdul Rahman Sebli and Harminder Singh Dhaliwal, made the unanimous decision that Yahya was guilty of deceiving Abdul Karim into giving the RM50,000 “political donation” that Yahya said was for the Pakatan Rakyat secretariat for its 100th day celebration programme.
” Khalid said he did not write or see the letter asking for a donation to sponsor the 100 days programme,” said Justice Abdul Rahman who read the judgment in dismissing his appeal on conviction and sentence.
“The accused knew the 100th day celebration was sponsored by the Selangor Government, not by PKR.”
“He concealed this information from KDEB Bhd chairman Abdul Karim,” said Justice Abdul Rahman.
The court dismissed the prosecution’s appeal on Yahya allegedly using a forged document to open a bank account.
Justice Abdul Aziz ordered him to begin serving his jail sentence immediately. “The RM15,000 bail posted will be refunded.”
After the court delivered the decision, Yahya’s wife and daughters were seen crying and hugging each other outside the court.
Yahya was represented by Ahmad Nizam Hamid.
Ahmad Sazali Abdul Khairi and Aida Adhha appeared for the prosecution.
On 27 June 2013 the High Court sentenced Yahya to two years in prison and two strokes of the rotan for cheating, overturning his Sessions Court acquittal.
