Have faith in Dr M to cure nation's ailment, says Zaid

Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim continues to urge all quarters to have faith in Dr Mahathir Mohamad to alter the future course of the nation.
In an interview with several news portals this morning, he said the former premier should be given a chance to shape new leaders to save the nation.
"We should believe in Mahathir. He doesn't want (to be prime minister) but I say he's qualified (to form a new group).
"So let us give Mahathir a chance, let him form a new group," he added.
Mahathir’s actions and policies during his 22-year tenure as prime minister continue to haunt him, with detractors expressing reservations about joining forces with the nonagenarian, who has also been the subject of various allegations including corruption and abuse of power.
Meanwhile, Zaid said this new group should not ignore others, including the supporters of Mahathir’s once heir apparent-turned-nemesis Anwar Ibrahim.
"Let Mahathir form the group but don't leave out important groups like Amanah, PKR, DAP.
“Don't forget Anwar’s supporters, Bersih, Ikhwan and supporters of Islam who are moderate and progressive. Don't leave them out.
"If we can include all of them, then Mahathir can put forward a team that can change the country. That is my hope," he added.
Previously, Zaid announced he would organise a gathering on March 27 to protest against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's leadership.
During the interview, the former Kota Bharu MP said he is confident that the gathering would contribute to a positive future.
He claimed that the people are eager for change and do not wish to hear more lies from the government, especially when burdened by the cost of living.
The former minister also dismissed the perception that the people appear contented.
“They seem contented on the outside, but in their hearts, they are waiting for new leaders... They are done with being lied to. They are waiting for leaders to lead them," he added.
Mahathir has repeatedly called for the prime minister’s resignation and accused him of numerous misdeeds.
On Monday, he announced his resignation from Umno, for the second time, in protest of Najib's leadership.
The prime minister, on the other hand, had denied the allegations against him and blamed them on those attempting to topple him from power. -Mkini
