File photo shows commuters travel along a road. —…KOTA KINABALU, March 4 — A driver of a Proton Waja who tried to flee after running down a motorcycle and its riders was chased down and attacked by passers-by who witnessed the incident in the wee hours of the morning.

City police chief Assistant commissioner M.Chandra said that the driver of the car, a 24-year-old local man, was turning into the Lido junction off Jalan Penampang at 4am this morning and did not see the motorcyclist coming from the other direction.

“The car knocked the motorcycle over, which cause both the motorcyclist and the pillion rider to be flung off the bike. It was reported that the driver had already driven off at this point.

“Members of the public who saw the accident followed him a few hundred metres and at the Taman Melok junction, there was a confrontation and scuffle,” he said.

The driver was reported to have suffered injuries on his head from being assaulted by members of the public.

“All three victims are at the hospital. No official report has been made by the victims on the motorcyclist yet, but early findings show that the accident was caused by recklessness from (sic) the driver of the Proton Waja,” said Chandra, adding that there were no signs of intoxication from any of those involved.
