Kit Siang: Unite and save Malaysia

DAP leader says grouping to remove Najib Razak is a call for all to unite, regardless of race or religion, to prevent Malaysia from being a failed or rogue state.

PETALING JAYA: The unlikely alliance formed by influential leaders from both sides of the political divide was a call to all Malaysians to unite regardless of race, religion and creed, DAP elder statesmen Lim Kit Siang said.

“What we seek today is not a political realignment but a national alignment of all Malaysian forces for national interests.

“And I think all 30 million Malaysians, regardless of race, religion and creed, must unite and save Malaysia from being a failed and rogue state,” he told reporters during the “Selamatkan Malaysia” press conference.

Lim was speaking in defence of his attendance at the anti-Najib declaration. Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad had said that the agenda for his movement was solely to remove Najib, not BN or Umno.

Lim stated that the most important thing was a united front and reminded the people not to be swayed by rhetoric and he emphasised that this was an important moment for the nation.

The Gelang Patah MP also said this was an important juncture in the nation’s history as it represented the people’s sentiment towards Prime Minister Najib Razak’s administration.

“During the last general election, the voters made it clear that they wanted a change and this should be heard loud and clear by Najib.

“Instead, he (Najib) has regressed. He doesn’t even have the majority of the people’s support.”

Meanwhile, Kuala Terengganu MP Raja Kamarul Bahrin said “our priority is to remove a leader who has done a lot of damage to the country”.

“If a house is on fire, we should save the house first; the people or others there are beside the point,” he told FMT after the press conference.

He reiterated that the most important point was that the alliance with Mahathir and his compatriots was to bring change and reform the country.

“I’m glad that Tun M agreed that the system needs to be changed and it is very refreshing to hear.”

Meanwhile, Mahathir said it was fine for DAP to lead the country if that was the people’s sentiments.

“We will organise a general election free from fraud. If the rakyat wants to vote for DAP, that is their right.”
