Miri Fire and Rescue head says six firemen along with medical assistants lifted Indrawady Jaya using a mattress as he was too big to fit a stretcher.
MIRI: Members of Lopeng Fire and Rescue Services were called in to help transport an obese man from his house in Jalan Dato Permaisuri to Miri Hospital Permyjaya, yesterday.
Based on a report from Utusan Malaysia, Miri Fire and Rescue head Law Poh Kiong said the man, Indrawady Jaya, weighing about 160 kilograms, was taken to the hospital via a fire department utility vehicle, namely a three-tonne lorry.
Law said they received a call from a Miri Hospital medical assistant at around 11:24am, requesting their assistance to transport a man suffering health problems including diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.
“Arriving at the site at 11.50am, the man was found to be in pain in a room and needed further medical treatment at a hospital.
“As many as six firemen along with medical assistants were forced to lift the victim using a mattress as the man was too big to fit a stretcher,” he said.
He added that it took approximately 10 minutes to place the man in the lorry and send him to the hospital.
“The victim is in stable condition as the operation went smoothly and ended at approximately 12.30pm.”
