The more Dr M speaks, the greater his risk of arrest

Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan says the action Dr Mahathir is advocating to remove Najib Razak as PM can be considered seditious and treacherous.
jazlanKUALA LUMPUR: The more speeches former Premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad makes, the more evidence the police can gather to build a case against him, warned Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed.
He said Mahathir’s speech during the People’s Congress on Sunday reeked of sedition and treachery, particularly when he allegedly called for “out of the box” methods to oust democratically elected Prime Minister Najib Razak from office.
“He’s asking the public to ‘go outside the box’ and beyond the Constitution.
“Isn’t this country governed by the Constitution? You have to abide by the Constitution. What he is advocating can be considered seditious and treacherous.
“The more he talks, the more mistakes he will make,” Nur Jazlan told reporters at Parliament lobby today.
Mahathir was reported to have even called for the Malay Rulers to intervene and push for Najib to resign over alleged wrongdoings. These included the alleged misappropriation of 1Malaysia Development Berhad’s funds, and the RM2.6 billion political donation Najib received from a member of the Saudi royal family.
Mahathir had also promised to embark on a nationwide Save Malaysia tour, with the aim of creating awareness among people on the importance of removing Najib from office. The first venue of the said tour was at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council field here last night.
Nur Jazlan, however, dismissed the possibility of the tour affecting the people’s support of the government as it had gained no traction whatsoever.
He also said the government perceived the Save Malaysia movement as nothing more than a publicity stunt.
“If they want to continue the rally, they can. What he (Mahathir) is doing is merely getting the people’s sympathy. The gathering has not received much support from the people, so we will treat it as a political stunt.
“But if he goes on saying things that can trigger an offence, for example under the Sedition Act, or if he says they (the people) have to go beyond the Constitution, then we will take action.”
