Najib says 'let old legacy pass', unveils own vision TN50

BUDGET 2017 Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has introduced his own vision called 'Transformasi Nasional 2050' (National Transformation 2050).
Though he did not make any reference to Dr Mahathir Mohamad's Vision 2020 to make Malaysia a developed nation, the prime minister however said the time has come to put the past aside.
"From now on TN50 is our lucky charm. Let the old legacy pass. The future of Malaysia, we recreate," he said when tabling Budget 2017 in Parliament this evening.
Previously, Mahathir had accused the Najib administration of wanting to erase his legacy, claiming that the prime minister, among others, hoped to bankrupt his brainchild Proton.
However, Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak denied this, arguing that if the former premier’s claim was true, the government would have demolished KLCC.
Elaborating on his plan, Najib said the government would launch a series of national discourses to chart the nation's future direction under TN50.
"The New Economic Policy under (Najib’s late father and second prime minister) Allahyarham Tun Razak was planned to create a successful new generation within 30 years.
"So is TN50, which will span three decades to form a calibre nation state with excellent mindset," he added.

Najib said TN50 would be kicked-started by the young and diverse generation of all races through national discourse.
He said this would be conducted by the Youth and Sports Ministry and would come under the patronage of the prime minister.
"Let the TN50 bear witness and be recorded in history that we are the responsible citizens and forefathers, to leave behind the best and greatest legacy to be inherited by the future generation," he added.- Mkini
