Police have arrested red-shirts movement leader Jamal Md Yunos immediately after his return to the country.
His secretary, Durrany Izam, confirmed that Jamal was arrested at around 8.30am after he touched down at the KL International Airport (KLIA).
“He is being brought to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters,” Durrany told Malaysiakini.
A press conference is scheduled outside the police station at 10am and Jamal will be speaking to the media if he is out by then.
“If not, I will conduct the press conference,” said Durrany.
Police had previously waited for Jamal’s return from his Dubai trip to record his statement on the clash between the red shirts and the Bersih 5 convoy in Sabak Bernam two weeks ago.
Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar also announced that police would investigate the Sungai Besar Umno chief over a posting vowing that the Bersih 5 rally will see a repeat of the May 13, 1969 race riots.
Jamal, however, denied that he was behind the posting, claiming that it was made by a purportedly fake account.
