Syabas To Tiger Platoon, GOF

Image result for Abu Sayyaf kidnappers in SabahImage result for ex Malaysian Police Field Force

At last our boys have scored big in Sabah. The GOF (ex Police Field Force) Tiger Platoon scored a major success when they intercepted and engaged in a firefight a group of Abu Sayyaf kidnappers in Sabah. In the process three of the Abu Sayyaf raiders were killed and three more captured. A hostage was also rescued. One Policeman was wounded by gunshot in his leg.

Before that the Philippine media has been reporting widely about this success. Especially after it has come to light that one of those killed was a leader of the local Abu Sayyaf by the name of Abraham Hamid.

Western Mindanao Command confirmed killing of leader of Abu Sayyaf.

Hamid was kingpin of Abu Sayyaf

Despite major offensive this year involving 6,000 Philippines troops, navy gunboats and rocket-firing air force aircraft, militant group has maintained its strength.
Philippine military killed 70 Abu Sayyaf captured 32 others from July – October

believed to be in island strongholds in Jolo and Basilan.

My comments :  There are a few things to note about this incident.  Firstly the Tiger Platoon used classic, old fashioned decoy techniques. They were patrolling in an unmarked boat.

The agreement by newly installed President Duterte that Malaysia can enter Philippine waters in hot pursuit of terrorists has also made this operation possible.

Our boys can now patrol closer to escape routes near Philippine waters and even chase the terrorists into the Philippines (with due information given to the Philippines).

Sabah Police has done a good job.

The death of Abraham Hamid, an Abu Sayyaf leader also shows that the Abu Sayyaf did not have intel (information leaks) about the presence of the Tiger Platoon.  Talk is all movements of our patrol craft are easily observed by Abu Sayyaf spies in Sabah.

Congratulations are due to our Policemen in Sabah, who are putting their lives in so much danger to safeguard our people and our shores.
