PETALING JAYA – Five robbery suspects who broke into the home of a top aide of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in Kota Damansara last week were arrested within two days of the incident.
The aide, who is Ahmad Zahid’s private secretary, lost more than RM100,000 in cash and valuables to the suspects, including one who is believed to be his ex-employee.
They were nabbed by police at various locations in the Klang Valley on the first day of Hari Raya.
The aide, who is a “datuk” was overseas at the time of the break-in.
Investigators learnt that the robbers, who wore masks and were armed with sharp weapons, had broken into the house in the early hours of June 22 by prying open a window.
The political aide’s wife and children, who were asleep at the time, were rudely awakened when the robbers confronted them.
After tying them up, the intruders ransacked the house.
The victims later managed to free themselves and called the police.
After gathering clues at the scene, a police team launched a search for the suspects and managed to track down the private secretary’s former employee before nabbing the rest.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said today that none of the occupants of the house were harmed and the case is considered solved with the arrest of the suspects, who are locals.
He said police also recovered part of the stolen items from the suspects and investigations are ongoing.
