KL traders want local council posts to include non-bumi

Local authorities (PBT) must reflect Malaysia's ethnic diversity in their appointments, to be more effective in serving the community at large, according to a local association.
Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Hawkers and Petty Traders Association chairman Ang Say Tee opined, the approach would facilitate matters such as land, housing, business licence application and relocation of houses of worship, between PBT and their clients, for example, from the Chinese and Indian communities.

He noted that the PBT workforce here generally comprised bumiputera.
"This issue should be given attention and standardised to reflect the 1Malaysia culture in the administration," he told Bernama when contacted here.
MCA president Liow Tiong Lai was reported to have recently proposed for a Chinese to be appointed as datuk bandar (mayor), or deputy mayor.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), advisory board member Ng How Doo suggested for PBT to add a portfolio specifically to handle issues involving the local Chinese and Indian communities.- Mkini
