Sabah CMCO extended to Nov 9

The conditional movement control order (MCO) in Sabah will be extended by another 14 days to Nov 9.

This was after requests from the Sabah state government and state National Security Council, according to Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Ismail resumed his daily press conference today after yesterday's session was cancelled due to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah at Istana Abdulaziz in Kuantan, Pahang.

Istana Negara in a statement this morning said the King will discuss with the other rulers on suggestions he received from the cabinet, although no details were revealed on whether it included a proposal to declare a state of emergency.

Only journalists from the official state media were allowed to attend Ismail's press conference held at the Defence Ministry and no questions were raised to clarify matters decided by the cabinet at its meeting yesterday that reportedly approved the suggestions presented to the King.

Ismail, meanwhile, announced that two more localities in Tawau, Taman Semarak and PPR Baling, will be placed under an enhanced MCO from Oct 26 to Nov 8.

The latest restrictions will affect 4,266 households with 21,470 residents, with slight leeway granted for sundry shops to remain open from 6am to 6pm.

Ismail reiterated that the permission for sundry shops to open and for movement to the shops was announced to supplement government aids distributed in all enhanced MCO areas.

Ismail also announced that the two weeks enhanced MCO enforced at the Tropicana workers' quarters in Selangor will be lifted on schedule tomorrow.

"As of Oct 23, the Health Ministry conducted screenings on 503 workers, and 23 tested positive. All 23 were sent to the hospital, while their close contacts have been identified and screened.

"Upon the advice of the Selangor NSC, the government has agreed to end the enhanced MCO on Oct 25," he said, adding that the area still falls under the overall conditional MCO enforced across Selangor. - Mkini
