PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasir has met with his party president Anwar Ibrahim to explain the controversy over screenshots of an alleged text conversation between several youth leaders which supposedly “insulted” Anwar.
Based on a social media post by the Johor Bahru MP, it appears that Anwar is in a forgiving mood and does not wish to drag the matter further.
Akmal said he had spoken to Anwar in Parliament today.
"I took the opportunity to explain the mistakes that happened, and he hopes this issue will not be extended.
"I also took note of the president's message for all PKR members to move forward and focus on carrying out the responsibility of the Reformasi movement," said Akmal who also posted pictures of himself flanked by Anwar and party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Despite the party's noted internal feuds, one of which lead to the defection of former deputy president Azmin Ali and nine others, Akmal insisted that PKR was one family.
"PKR is like a family. Differences between each other must be celebrated as long as they stay principled and within the ideals of reform," he added.
Akmal came under fire from the party's youth wing with its Selangor chapter calling for an explanation yesterday.
Party vice-president Rafizi Ramli, who has been in a state of virtual retirement from politics, also warned Anwar to act immediately against "scoundrels and opportunists" surrounding the PKR president, who were bringing a dangerous culture to the party.
In doing so, Rafizi said he had reprimanded Anwar over the past two years for not choosing his companions carefully, citing the case of Azmin, before adding that "Akmal's reprimand has a basis". - Mkini
