Terengganu detects two Covid-19 cases by screening red zone returnees

COVID-19 | Terengganu has detected two Covid-19 cases in the state by encouraging those who returned from red zones to seek health screenings at local public clinics.

Last Friday, it urged all who enter the state from red zones to register with the Terengganu Health Department.

Up to Dec 13, two cases have been detected by those entering the state, the Terengganu Health Department (JKNT) said.

"Imagine if these two individuals did not voluntarily seek health and risk assessments.

"Their family members and close friends would be exposed to the virus and if detected too late, there would be further infections and new clusters," it said on its Facebook page.

Terengganu is a mostly green state, with only Dungun and Kemaman recording 15 cases and one case respectively in the past fortnight.

The other districts have recorded zero cases.

Besides Terengganu, Perlis, which is also a mostly green state with only one case detected in the past 14 days, is urging all who enter the state to register with the local Health Department.

In Terengganu, those arriving from high-risk areas and red zones are urged to seek a health assessment at the nearest public clinic.

Earlier, JKNT said it expects more of such cases to emerge in the state as travel restrictions are lifted.

On Dec 7, it was informed that a man who travelled to Terengganu from the Klang Valley to fetch his wife and child, had tested positive.

The man arrived in Terengganu on Dec 4, the day after he was tested for Covid-19 in the Klang Valley.

He was instructed to get tested by his employers after a Covid-19 case was detected at his workplace.

However, he was not placed under home quarantine because the testing was done privately and not under the Health Ministry's instructions, JKNT said.

The case was treated in Terengganu but recorded in Selangor because the man was tested in the state.

As such, JKNT urged all to delay their travels to and from red zones and to postpone gatherings for now, even though they are allowed in areas under the recovery movement control order.

"Stay safe everybody, let’s protect our green zones," it said.

Last week, Sarawak also reported a case involving an individual who returned from travels in the Klang Valley.

Sarawak recorded only two cases in the past 14 days and is a mostly green state.

In contrast, only two out of nine districts of Selangor are red zones with some districts like Klang recording more than 3,800 cases in the past 14 days.

When cases spiked in Sabah in September, those returning from the state faced mandatory screening and quarantine. - Mkini
