Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob has instructed his aide to lodge a police report against an article which he linked to an organised act out to slander him.
"That's true, a (police) report had been lodged by my officer because there was a report which I could perceive as slanderous and (I) was informed it was an organised slanderous (article) with an intention to slander government leaders," he told a press conference today.
However, Ismail Sabri stopped short of mentioning which article or its content.
He said he was one of the individuals whose name had been associated with and mentioned in the article.
"As a politician, we are used to this, but we cannot condone slander.
"This is something personal and I shouldn't answer it here because this is the (platform for me to inform the public about) the government's action in containing the Covid-19 outbreak," he added.
In a social media posting yesterday, Ismail Sabri denied what he called slanderous material depicting himself, Malacca Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali and Malacca Sate Assembly Speaker Abd Rauf Yusof in apparent violation of the conditional movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs).
No need for one-metre distance in restaurants
He said several images that went viral showed that there was no social distance among them. However, he explained that in restaurants there was no need for the one-metre distance and that just having a chair in between was enough.
Ismail Sabri also dismissed public concern over the possiblity of data leaks from MySejahtera, a mobile app owned by the Health Ministry.
It is an offence for anyone who leak any personal data from the contact tracing app as stipulated in the Personal Data Protection Act 2010, he warned.\
"From the security aspect, the app complies with the international standard in the protection of privacy," he said.
"There is no need for us to worry about our data would be shared by the others," he said when asked about claims that personal data in the MySejahtera app could be easily accessed by others.
Some had raised concern from the aspect of privacy and data security particularly when a netizen alleged that MySejahtera could collect personal data of the handphone users.
On Nov 30, the Health Minisry debunked the allegation that MySejahtera was used to spy on the public. The ministry explained that the app's function is to contact trace and to inform the public of any critical updates on Covid-19.
On another development, Ismail Sabri said the enhanced movement control order (MCO) in Zone B and Zone C of Taman Meru 2C in Ipoh, Perak, would be extended for another seven days until Dec 10.
He said this was because they have yet to receive the results for the remaining samples of Covid-19 screenings.
“The government had earlier placed these areas under the enhanced MCO, from Nov 20 to Dec 3. The Health Ministry carried out 1,793 tests and 66 positive cases have been recorded in the localities," he said.
“Based on the advice of and risk assessment carried out by the MOH, the meeting (of the National Security Council) today agreed to extend the enhanced MCO in these localities,” he said.
He also announced the end of the enhanced MCO at the Seberang Perai Prison and its staff quarters, effective today.
Similarly, the enhanced MCO at Tawau Temporary Detention Centre, Sandakan Prison and Taman Wira Prison Quarters in Sandakan, as well as at Kampung Nahaba and Kampung Tegudon in Kota Belud, would end tomorrow, as scheduled. - Mkini
