PETALING JAYA: The government needs to explain the reasons behind today’s huge surge of Covid-19 deaths, says Subang MP Wong Chen.
In a Facebook post, he said the 126 deaths today was a “massive jump” from the previous record high 98 deaths seen over the weekend.
Wong questioned if the high number of fatalities was due to a lack of ICU facilities or if it was related to a more deadly variant.
He also asked if there was a need for the country to buy more ventilators. Putrajaya had to make clear how it can be assisted, and if this meant the movement control order should be tightened further, he said.
“The government must communicate better. Families of the victims deserve a full and proper explanation. Steps must be taken to reduce and prevent as many deaths as possible,” he said.
Today’s 126 deaths comprised 123 Malaysians and three foreigners, aged between 27 and 98. The number of fatalities in the country now stand at 2,993.
The health ministry also recorded 7,703 new cases in the past 24 hours. - FMT
