The government today announced that it will allow eateries to operate from 6am to 10pm instead of the previous 8am to 8pm during the total lockdown period.
"After taking into account appeals and views from the operators of eateries, the (Covid-19 technical committee) meeting agreed to change the operation period for selling food to 6am to 10pm effective June 28," Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in a statement.
The government had received similar feedback when the second movement control order (MCO 2.0) was imposed in January.
During MCO 2.0, the government set the operation hours for eateries from 6am to 8pm. This meant delivery services also stopped taking orders by 7.30pm.
This prompted complaints from some working individuals that they had to go without food for dinner.
The government subsequently extended the operation hours for eateries from 6am to 10pm.
However, when the MCO 3.0 was reimposed in May, the government again reverted to a cut off time of 8pm, leading to the same complaints.
No dine-in is allowed during the lockdown. Only takeaway, drive-through and delivery services are allowed. - Mkini
