Action against those who sell cooking oil above ceiling price

The domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry set the maximum retail price for bottled and packed pure palm cooking oil on July 28.

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor branch of the domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry will take stern action against traders who sell pure palm cooking oil (bottled) above the maximum price from today, its director Muhamad Zikril Azan Abdullah said.

He said a few traders were still selling above the price set by the government with the excuse that they were not aware of the price control and they would revert immediately to the price recommended by the government.

Zikril Azan said following inspections from Aug 1 to 7, the ministry’s Selangor office issued 21 written warnings and for that period no action was taken.

“However, we will be monitoring these premises again and if the traders continue to violate the regulation, action will be taken,” he said.

He said the price control on bottled pure palm cooking oil and 1kg packet had been enforced by the ministry but if there were complaints of any increase in the price, investigations will be conducted under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

The ministry had on July 28 set the maximum retail price for bottled pure palm cooking oil at RM6.70 for 1kg, RM12.70 (2kg), RM18.70 (3kg), and RM29.70 (5kg). - FMT
