Agong met all party leaders at once and consensus to stop 'old politics', forge peace- Anwar

 


The Yang di-Pertuan Agong will meet party leaders at 2pm today, following the resignation of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

The audience finished around 4,15pm.

Reporting live on the developments.


4.15pm: It is understood that all others present at the meeting have left while the media was speaking to Anwar.

MPs have been given until 4pm tomorrow to vote on their prime minister of choice by writing to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.


'Political leaders agree to stop old politics'

4pm: Pakatan Harapan leaders exit Istana Negara.

Coalition leader Anwar Ibrahim tells the media that there was a consensus among the party leaders present to "stop old politics".

"We are heading towards a new direction. It is not just an issue about appointing a new prime minister.

"More importantly as stressed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Deputy Agong, is to create a new form of politics that is more peaceful and harmonious," he says.

Annuar to submit senior BN leader's name

3.30pm: Ketereh MP Annuar Musa says he will submit a senior BN leader's name to the Agong as his candidate for prime minister.

"This is the time for us to forget the past and look forward," he says in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Berita Harian, citing an anonymous senior Perikatan Nasional (PN) leader, says the former ruling coalition will submit Ismail Sabri Yaakob's name.

The source said Umno leaders aligned with PN have agreed to this plan.


Warisan willing to support Anwar, if...

3pm: Sepanggar MP Azis Jamman says Warisan will throw support behind Anwar Ibrahim if the latter can get the numbers.

"(But we) hope Pakatan Harapan will give right of first refusal to (Warisan president) Shafie Apdal if Anwar can't get the magic number (111)," the Warisan youth chief adds in a tweet.


More leaders arrive at Istana Negara

1.58pm: More party leaders are arriving at the palace, including PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Parti Pejuang Tanah Air appears to be represented by Mukhriz Mahathir, reports Bernama.


GPS to represent Sarawak

1.54pm: GPS will represent Sarawak during an audience with Agong. Its chairperson Abang Johari Openg will attend the meeting via video conferencing, reports Borneo Post.


Tuan Ibrahim arrives at palace

1.45pm: Among the political leaders who have arrived is PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Astro Awani reported that Bersatu will be represented by its secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin, instead of party president Muhyiddin.


1.30pm: According to a highly placed source, the king is expected to meet all party leaders at the same time, instead of one by one.

It is currently uncertain if there will be an outcome on who will be the prime minister from this meeting.

All MPs have been instructed to write to the palace and vote on their prime minister of choice by 4pm tomorrow.
