A prominent preacher has been summoned to the Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today to assist ongoing investigations into a sexual harassment claim.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Abd Jalil Hassan confirmed police recorded a statement from the preacher who is known for his humanitarian activities.
The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
"Investigations will continue until the police are satisfied to refer the case to the Attorney-General's Chambers for further advice and instructions.
"We appeal to all parties to not make any speculations or provocations, ensuring the case can be investigated in a transparent manner," said Jalil.
He also urged the public to refrain from sharing any materials that could interfere with police investigations.
Several Malay-dailies earlier quoted the preacher as saying that he was present at Bukit Aman's CID Sexual Crimes, Women, and Children unit as a witness to the case under investigation.
The preacher also reportedly described the claims as "wild gossip".
He reportedly left the police headquarters at around 2pm after being questioned for over an hour. - Mkini
