Covid-19 (Aug 14) : 20,670 new cases and 260 deaths today, eight states and FT above 1k

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 20,670 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the cumulative infections to 1,384,353.

There were also 260 deaths today.

  • Active cases: 243,942
  • Patients in ICU: 1,096
  • Intubated: 540

New cases by states

A total of eight states and federal territories recorded fresh infections in the four digits, namely Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Kedah, Sabah, Johor, Kelantan, Penang, and Perak.

The 1,370 new infections recorded in Kelantan is a new record high. The previous record was 1,283 registered on August 11.

Pahang and Perlis, also saw new record highs in terms of fresh infections.

Perlis set a new record for the second consecutive day with 61 new cases, after already setting a record yesterday with 50 new cases.

Meanwhile, Pahang's record high of 794 is 80 cases more than the previous record of 714 on August 7.

Deaths

The fatalities today brought the death toll to 12,228.

The deaths were reported in Selangor (77), Kuala Lumpur (56), Johor (50), Perak (18), Negeri Sembilan (16), Kedah (14), Sabah (10), Malacca (8), Terengganu (5), Kelantan (2), Penang (2), Pahang (1), and Sarawak (1).

Of the deceased, 68 were brought in dead.

A total of 1,308 out of 4,154 clusters are still active. This includes the 34 new clusters reported today.
