PETALING JAYA: A poster congratulating Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu for being appointed a “minister-level” special adviser to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has been making its rounds.
In the poster, Bersatu’s Kota Bharu division congratulated Faizal on his appointment, though it is unclear when the appointment was made.
The Prime Minister’s Office has not responded to queries on the matter, while Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan told FMT he would check with the PMO.
However, Bersatu supreme council member Muhammad Faiz Na’aman confirmed to FMT in a brief text message that it was true.
A well-placed government source also told FMT that Faizal had been appointed as Muhyiddin’s special adviser.
This would be the third “ministerial level” appointment, after Bintulu MP Tiong King Sing who was made special envoy to China and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who became special envoy to the Middle East.
Faizal will also be Muhyiddin’s second special adviser, after Dr Jemilah Mahmood, who was appointed the prime minister’s special adviser on public health
The Tambun MP was previously the Perak menteri besar before being ousted in a confidence vote in the state assembly last December. He was replaced by Perak Umno chief Saarani Mohamad. - FMT
