PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak says he will be back in court later today following his audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong this morning.
The Pekan MP was absent from his 1MDB trial earlier as he had gone to Istana Negara.
Sources told FMT last night that this was so that the King could verify whether they were all in support of Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s candidacy to become Malaysia’s ninth prime minister.
In a Facebook post following his audience with the Agong, Najib said he would be back in court later today after taking a break to eat.
“I take responsibility for everything as best I can. Official business this morning. Addressing His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong with members of Parliament,” he said.
“I will be back for court proceedings shortly,” he continued, accompanied by a picture of him in front of what appeared to be a packet of nasi lemak.
Trial judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah had earlier told Najib’s lawyer that the former prime minister should have come to court before his audience with the Agong as a matter of courtesy.
Proceedings are expected to continue at 2pm. - FMT
