In betrayal, Muhyiddin reaps what he sowed, says Kadir Jasin

PETALING JAYA: Veteran newsman A Kadir Jasin has pointed out the irony of former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s rise and fall from power because of betrayal.

“He came to power by betraying the people who voted for him and the Pakatan Harapan coalition in the last general election,” the former Bersatu Supreme Council member said.

But 17 months down the road, the very people Muhyiddin plotted with, the “hungry wolves of Umno” as Kadir describes them, turned their backs on Muhyiddin and withdrew their support for him, ultimately leading to his downfall.

Muhyiddin’s tenure as the country’s 8th prime minister ended last Monday when he resigned after losing majority support among MPs.

Subsequently, Umno’s Ismail Sabri Yaakob was appointed prime minister with the support of MPs from Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN), GPS, PBS and several independents.

“Now, not only is the ‘loser Umno’ back in the driver’s seat thanks to Mahiaddin’s (Muhyiddin’s) 17 months of self-gratification, Bersatu is in danger of being swallowed up and PN disbanded in favour of the return to BN.

“Already there are voices within the Umno Supreme Council declaring the end of the PN rule.”

Kadir said Umno and PKR turncoats who joined Bersatu purely for power and money now find themselves playing second fiddle to their Umno overlords.

He said while those who swapped Umno for Bersatu could always consider returning to their former party, the PKR defectors, however, may not be welcomed in their former party.

“History is seldom kind to the loser even when he had fought a gallant battle. In Mahiaddin’s case, he didn’t fight any battle. He reaps what he sows.” - FMT
