Kelantan Umno, led by Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
This was over what Jazlan described as treasonous acts (penderhakaan) against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
"Kelantan Umno firmly demands Muhyiddin to resign as the prime minister.
"As the head of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government, he is responsible for the treasonous acts," Jazlan (above) said in a statement.
The Kelantan Umno chief was referring to the PN government's move to defy the king's call for the emergency ordinances to be debated in Parliament.
Instead, the government revoked the emergency ordinances without the rulers' consent which prompted a public reprimand from Istana Negara.
Jazlan is the second state Umno chief to criticise the move.
Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, who is also the Pahang Umno chief, had sided with the ruler and hit out at critics.
Yang-di Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah is also the Pahang sultan.
Apart from Jazlan, three other Umno parliamentarians are in open revolt against Muhyiddin, namely Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Bagan Datuk), Najib Abdul Razak (Pekan) and Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Gua Musang).
Jazlan also criticised Parliament's latest suspension which he described as a further act of treason.
The government had suspended Parliament on grounds of Covid-19 cases discovered on the premises but critics accuse the government of trying to obstruct the sitting. - Mkini
