Maria Chin denies MP trio are 'durian' lovers

Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah has denied that she and two other MPs are "durian" lovers who would be making the jump to Perikatan Nasional.

The two others implicated are Sungai Buloh MP R Sivarasa and Damansara MP Tony Pua.

"I totally reject and condemn this kind of gutter politics," Maria said in a statement.

"I am with PKR and Pakatan Harapan and remain committed to this struggle, and as are my colleagues Sivarasa and Pua," she added.

A poster purporting the three MPs are "durian" lovers made the rounds on social media today.

"Durian" in this context refers to bribes and not the king of fruits.

Several Harapan lawmakers received messages over the weekend offering them RM30 durians if they crossed over to PN.

Meanwhile, Maria said there was also a message that was falsely attributed to the news website Agenda Daily, purporting she would be crossing the aisle.

She said her main focus now as a lawmaker was the welfare of her constituents.

"Hundreds of people are dying from Covid-19 each day, and yet some others can still indulge in such despicable, low-down politics.

"This could also be created by the enemies of Harapan to create confusion and distrust. Don’t make such baseless accusations!" she added.

She stressed that she stood firm with Harapan and wanted the "failed" PN government out.

Maria and Sivarasa are frequently the subjects of speculation that they would join PN.

This is due to their close association with Gombak MP Azmin Ali when the latter was PKR deputy president.

When contacted, Sivarasa also denied making a jump to PN and similarly reiterated his commitment to Harapan. - Mkini
