A Wanita Umno leader has followed the footsteps of Wanita Umno chief Noraini Ahmad's resignation as higher education minister by stepping down from the board of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).
Rosni Sohar, who is Wanita Umno secretary, thanked Noraini for the opportunity given to serve on the agency's board.
"However, in line with Noraini's resignation as higher education minister and the Umno supreme council's decision on Aug 3, I, as a supreme council member, will abide by the party's decision.
"Therefore, I hereby resign as a PTPTN board member effective Aug 7," Rosni (above) said in a statement today.
She also thanked all PTPTN staff for their contributions throughout her service.
Noraini was the second Umno minister to resign from Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's administration, while Rosni is the third party leader to let go of appointments linked to Noraini's former ministry.
Umno supreme council member Abdul Rahman Dahlan yesterday resigned as a Universiti Malaysia Sabah board member while Balik Pulau Umno chief Shah Headan Ayoob Hussain Shah on Friday stepped down from the board of Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Prior to that, three other Umno leaders had quit their appointed posts in a number of government-linked companies.
The resignations came after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi led 11 of the party's MPs in withdrawing the party's support for the embattled Muhyiddin.
At the cabinet level, apart from Noraini, Lenggong MP Shamsul Anuar Nasarah on Tuesday also resigned as energy and natural resources minister. - Mkini
