PETALING JAYA: PAS will wait for the outcome of tomorrow’s special Cabinet meeting before deciding on its next step, saying it will continue its alliance with Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Umno.
PAS Supreme Council member Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali said the party as well as its Syura Council — PAS’ highest decision-making body — had agreed on this last night, Berita Harian reported.
“We will continue to defend PN and strengthen Muafakat Nasional (MN),” he said on the political alliance between the Islamist party and Umno.
“We will also be the bridge between Bersatu and Umno,” the Malay daily reported him as saying.
Khairuddin is the plantation industries and commodities minister in the Perikatan Nasional government, which is on the verge of collapse, with reports stating that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin would resign tomorrow.
Muhyiddin is also Bersatu president.
Khairuddin went on to say that it was in the best interests of the nation for Malay parties to stick together.
He, however, said that how the party would go about strengthening MN could not be revealed as Umno and Bersatu are at odds at present.
Umno had earlier this month retracted its support for PN, sparking a crisis for the current administration. - FMT
