PETALING JAYA: Two MPs and a senator are among 28 people who have tested positive for Covid-19 after screening tests ahead of the new parliamentary sitting beginning tomorrow.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a total of 1,801 people were screened. Those who tested positive were a senator and 25 parliamentary staff. The two MPs tested positive in screenings conducted elsewhere.
The screening tests at Parliament House were conducted on Friday and Saturday.
Earlier today, Selangau MP Baru Bian confirmed that he had come down with Covid-19 and would not be able to attend the Dewan Rakyat sitting tomorrow.
“I was asked to undergo quarantine until Sept 22 and will not be able to attend the parliamentary sitting until the quarantine is completed,” he said.
Baru said the vaccinations he received a few months ago had managed to reduce more serious effects, including the need for hospital treatment. “I have symptoms such as flu and mild fever but it has decreased since yesterday,” he said. - FMT
