COVID-19 | The Health Ministry's Github data repository reported a total of 116 Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Sept 23), bringing the cumulative death toll to 24,681.

This is the lowest reported deaths since July 25. In addition, the number of new Covid-19 infections, too, has gone down - 13,754 were recorded yesterday, the lowest since July 22.

From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 25 percent or 29 died before they could receive treatment at a hospital, which is reported as "brought in dead (BID)" by the Health Ministry.

Selangor recorded the highest number of new deaths at 33, or 28.5 percent of the newly reported fatalities.

The remaining deaths were in Penang (20), Kuala Lumpur (17), Sarawak (14), Kelantan (10), Sabah (8), Malacca (7), Perak (6) and Kedah (1).

No new deaths were reported in Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perlis, Terengganu, Labuan and Putrajaya.

A total of 66 out of the 116 reported deaths happened in the last seven days of which only 1 was from yesterday.

The remaining deaths happened more than a week ago but were only recorded yesterday due to delays in data reporting.

To date, 8,026 Covid-19 deaths have been reported this month.

A total of 7,642 Covid-19 deaths were reported in August, 3,858 in July, 2,380 in June and 1,302 in May.

As of yesterday, there were 198,284 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 12.7 percent from the 227,120 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 24.5 percent from 262,716.

Previously, the Health Ministry released statistics on Covid-19 deaths together with the number of new Covid-19 cases around 7pm daily.

Deaths statistics are now released the next day by 2am. Malaysiakini reports them in the morning.
