KUALA LUMPUR: Gobind Singh Deo (PH-Puchong) challenged senior minister for economy Azmin Ali to confirm whether he was responsible for blocking Nga Kor Ming (PH-Teluk Intan) from chairing yesterday’s sitting.
This follows reports that Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun had written to Nga asking him to temporarily chair the sitting, but “pressure” from one of the four senior ministers stopped this from happening.
“I challenge Gombak (Azmin). Is he the senior minister involved? If you dare, stand up and answer the question now,” Gobind demanded in the Dewan Rakyat during the oral question and answer session today.
To this, Azmin replied: “I dare because I follow the rules. This is the question and answer session.”
This prompted deputy speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon to switch off both MPs’ microphones, saying he would not allow the matter to be brought up now.
Earlier, Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) asked the Dewan Rakyat if the senior minister who blocked Nga from temporarily presiding over the proceedings was present.
“I want to know if the senior minister is here?” he asked just as Azmin, the international trade and industry minister, replied to a question on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
Khoo added that the unknown senior minister’s actions were an abuse of power, while also asking Rashid if he knew about the matter.
“Today I see two senior ministers. Are they one of them? As MPs, we deserve to know who’s the senior minister who abused his power.”
Aside from Azmin, the other senior ministers are Hishammuddin Hussein (defence), Radzi Jidin (education) and Fadillah Yusof (works). - FMT
