Gold watch, not a Rolex, helps to tell prayer time, minister tells Siti Kassim

De facto Religious Affairs Minister Idris Ahmad wasted no time in dismissing claims by lawyer Siti Kassim that he was wearing a fancy Rolex watch.

Instead, the PAS vice-president said the gold watch seen on his wrist was bought from a local online marketplace, Buruj, that specialised in models designed to help determine Muslim prayer times and direction of the Kaabah.

"For (your) information, I have been wearing this Buruj watch for a long time; it's easy for me to tell prayer times and direction of the kiblat.

"I can pray anywhere. Even in this new office I can pray because it's easy to find the direction," Idris tweeted.

He was responding to Siti's tweet that mocked his appointment, describing him as a man who "goes around praying on the floor of an office wherever he goes" and only wears a Jawi name tag.

"But check out his Rolex gold watch," said Siti, according to a screenshot from her Twitter account.

Her comment was made in relation to a photograph of Idris seen sitting in an after-prayer position on the floor of his office, with his hands raised to expose the gold watch.
