Johor's Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar is keeping the pressure up in calling for the government to review its new, more stringent rules for the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme.
This was relayed when Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had an audience with the monarch (above) at the Istana Pasir Pelangi in Johor Bahru today.
A press statement on the sultan's Facebook page reiterated his views that MM2H was a strong contributor to Johor's economy.
"Review these strict rules that were set, and maintain the old rules with some improvements so that it can give a positive impact, especially to economic growth," the sultan decreed.
The new MM2H rules place a higher entry barrier for foreigners who would like to live in Malaysia long-term.
This includes raising income requirements from RM10,000 to RM40,000.
Sultan Ibrahim's repeated call for a review of the new rules comes a day after Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin dismissed the need to do so.
Hamzah had said that the new rules were fair, and were done with the country and people's future in mind. - Mkini
