Khairy conducts ‘spot check’ at Kajang Hospital, in jeans and hoodie

Frontliners at the Kajang Hospital in Selangor had a surprise visitor when Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin suddenly appeared to check on them this afternoon.

It is learned that he arrived there at about 1.30pm accompanied by his personal protection officer and a ministry officer, and spent about an hour making rounds at the facility.

According to several social media posts, the Rembau MP, clad in a pair of black jeans and a hoodie, spent the time speaking to its staff members and several patients.

Among those he met include nurses, ward assistants, and contract doctors.

No details were provided on their conversations, but it is believed that Khairy, who was sworn in as the health minister three weeks ago, wanted to know the situation and working conditions at the hospital.

The minister's 'spot check' during a weekend has won praises from some netizens, including MedTweetMy chairperson Dr Khairul Hafidz Alkhair Khairul Amin.

"Spotted in Kajang Hospital. This is what we call a real spot check.

"Seeing the minister coming unannounced like this surely can give some shock to the staff there. Good job YB @Khairykj," he said on Twitter.

Dr Helmy Haja Mydin, a private hospital doctor, said only through such a visit Khairy can truly understand the issues faced by the frontliners.

"@Khairykj goes down to the ground and speaks to @KKMPutrajaya staff regardless of their rank and positions.

"Such a spot check is really welcomed, and InsyaAllah, by doing this, the minister can understand and look into the issues faced by the frontliners," he said in a Tweet accompanied by a photo of Khairy speaking to hospital staff. - Mkini
