Making up for lost learning with special four-year course

The entire education system should be reviewed and realigned “on a massive scale”, says an Umno vice-president.

PETALING JAYA: A special four-year course should be devised for students to make up for the learning lost during the course of the Covid-19 pandemic, says Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

He said the course would help ensure there is no “lost generation” among students whose education was disrupted by the pandemic.

Such a course would fall under talent development in the 12th Malaysia Plan.

Khaled also called for a review and realignment of the entire education system “on a massive scale”.

He also suggested other measures needed to push the country forward.

The public sector should take the lead in digitisation as all innovations in business would be highly dependent on the efficiency and speed of government services.

Economic and industrial policies should be investor- and visitor-friendly, he said, and singled out the stricter new requirements for Malaysia My Second Home applicants as an example of a policy that needs revising.

States must also be given more power to set their agendas and dictate their own development, he said, and not be restricted by the federal government’s policy directions.

“We have already incurred losses and been left behind in many areas. Not just because of the global pandemic that has yet to subside, but also because of the endless political turmoil and our failure to always execute what is well planned.

“This is the time for Malaysia as a nation to reclaim its future path with confidence, dignity and pride,” he said. - FMT
