More than RM1 million was spent to renovate and buy new furniture for four offices of ministers and deputy ministers in 2020 and 2021, said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said this amount was for the offices of the minister in the prime minister's department (Parliament and Law), the minister in the prime minister's department (Sabah and Sarawak affairs), and their deputy ministers.
"The offices of the ministers and their deputies underwent renovation throughout 2020 and 2021, including replacing old furniture.
"This was according to the Guidelines and Regulations for Building Planning by the Standard and Cost Committee, Economic Planning Unit under the Prime Minister’s Department," he said.
Ismail Sabri was speaking in a parliamentary reply today. He was responding to Hannah Yeoh (Harapan-Segambut).
Yeoh asked the government to provide a list of ministers and deputy ministers whose offices underwent renovation in 2020 and 2021, including purchases of new furniture.
This is despite the public and private sectors having to work from home in the past two years due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
A breakdown of renovation and new furniture costs was provided. It added up to a total of RM1,073,580.
Renovation for the de facto law minister's office cost about RM380,000 while new furniture for the office was priced at RM90,000.
The contract worth RM470,000 was allocated to Puncak Interaktif Sdn Bhd.
The government forked out RM202,870 for renovation and new furniture for the deputy de facto law minister's office. Of this figure, renovation cost RM192,870 while new furniture was RM10,000.
The contract was given to Kerayong Indah Enterprise.
The renovation and new furniture for both offices of the minister and deputy minister (Sabah and Sarawak affairs) came up to a total of RM400,710, with furniture at RM254,733 while renovation work cost RM145,977.
The contract was awarded to Sega Elektrik Sdn Bhd, according to the parliamentary reply.
The parliament and law portfolio was held by the late Liew Vui Keong, under the Pakatan Harapan federal administration which fell in February 2020.
The portfolio was then filled by Takiyuddin Hassan, under Muhyiddin Yassin's administration. Currently, the portfolio is held by Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
As for the Sabah and Sarawak minister's portfolio, it is still being held by Maximus Ongkili. - Mkini
