Covid-19 deaths (Sept 22): 334 reported fatalities, death toll surpasses 24,000

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry's Github data repository reported a total of 334 Covid-19 fatalities yesterday, bringing the cumulative death toll to 24,078.

The daily death toll has been above 300 six days in a row. The highest record was 592 on Sept 11.

From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 25.15 percent, or 84, died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.

Selangor recorded the highest number of new deaths at 187, making up 55.99 percent of the newly reported fatalities.

The remaining deaths were in Johor (37), Kelantan (20), Kuala Lumpur (18), Sabah (14), Perak (12), Sarawak (10), Kedah (8), Pahang (7), Penang (7), Terengganu (6), Negeri Sembilan (5) and Malacca (3).

No new deaths were reported in Perlis, Labuan and Putrajaya.

A total of 105 out of the 334 reported deaths happened in the last seven days of which only four was from yesterday.

The remaining reported deaths were older than a week due to backlog.

An average of 330 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days. The seven-day average is 356.

As of yesterday, there were 206,473 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 8.35 percent compared to the 225,277 active infections a week ago.

Previously, the Health Ministry released deaths statistics together with the number of new Covid-19 cases in the evening. This had since changed.

Deaths statistics are now released the next day by 2am.  - Mkini
