Semenyih water plant closed, second time this week

The Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant has been closed for the second time this week after odour pollution has been detected again.

The closure came just days after the plant was closed on Aug 31, also due to odour pollution. The water supply was fully restored following the earlier closure just yesterday morning.

According to Air Selangor, the latest shutdown was trigger when odour pollution was detected at Sungai Semenyih at 5.15pm today.

“Air Selangor is working with Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (Luas) to identify the source of the raw water pollution along Sungai Semenyih and its tributaries,” said the company’s head of corporate communication Elina Baseri.

As with last time, a total of 463 areas throughout the Klang Valley region are expected to face unscheduled water disruptions as a result.

These areas are located in Petaling (172 areas), Hulu Langat (54 areas), Sepang (194 areas), Putrajaya (23 areas) and Kuala Langat (20 areas).

“Air Selangor has activated the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) to provide emergency water supply assistance to the affected consumers.

“A total of 94 water tankers will be mobilised to the affected areas and critical premises,” Elina said.

Meanwhile, Environment and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the pollution was detected at a raw water pumping station in Jenderam Hilir.

“The National Water Services Commission, Environment Department, Air Selangor, and Luas, together with the police, will take action against irresponsible parties who release effluents into drains.

“This includes arrests that will be made immediately,” he said.

A list of affected areas can be found in the embedded document below.
