KOTA KINABALU: Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking has called for the security forces to be mobilised for flood relief work in Sabah and to help clean up the affected areas.
He said most of the clean-up work and delivery of aid was being carried out by volunteers including political parties, societies and residents.
“There is not much they can do because more manpower and machinery is needed to clean up the mud,” he said.
He called for soldiers from Lok Kawi and Wataniah camps from Bukit Perwira to be sent to help.
The civil defence and Rela corps could also be involved, he said. “There is a lot of work to be done, such as strengthening the river banks or repairing and rebuilding destroyed houses,” he said.
The state government should consider providing zinc sheets and timber boards for flood victims to repair or rebuild their houses. - FMT
