PETALING JAYA: A teenage boy died while attempting to save his friend who had fallen into a dam at Kampung Pertak, Kuala Kubu Bharu, this evening.
Hamzah Ilya Azman, 19, had apparently dived into the dam but failed to resurface.
His friend, Ahmad Nabil Yassin Abdul Rashih, 20, managed to save himself even before the fire department arrived at the scene.
A Selangor fire and rescue department spokesman said the incident happened about 4pm.
“A search operation mounted by seven firemen is currently going on to look for the victim,” he said.
He advised members of the public picnicking near any rivers, waterfalls, beaches or dams to always take precautions.
“If it starts to rain, please leave immediately to avoid flash floods or a sudden surge in water levels in the area,” he said.
Last night, firemen were summoned to Sungai Kedondong, Batang Kali, to rescue nine holiday-makers who were trapped by a sudden water surge among the boulders at the popular picnic spot.
Water recreational spots have drawn scores of people after the government recently relaxed travel restrictions earlier imposed to control the spread of Covid-19. - FMT
