Umno’s Mahdzir urges Pejuang, Warisan to sign MoU

PETALING JAYA: Minor opposition parties Pejuang, Warisan and Muda have been urged to sign up for the political agreement with Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s government, just as Pakatan Harapan have done.

Umno vice-president Mahdzir Khalid said the participation of the two parties in the memorandum of understanding would not affect the check-and-balance process and their position as the opposition.

“The check-and-balance process will continue to be implemented even though the government and the opposition have agreed to take a collaborative approach.

“The two parties can remain in opposition and can oppose in Parliament, but there is an understanding on matters outside Parliament,” he said, according to Berita Harian.

Mahdzir, who is rural development minister in Ismail’s cabinet, also urged the opposition parties to find a way to work with the government to tackle the pandemic.

The political agreement on “stability and transformation”, signed by Ismail and the leaders of the three Pakatan Harapan parties, calls for cooperation to deal with Covid-19, disputes over the Malaysia Agreement 1963, and parliamentary reforms and political reforms. - FMT
