Telegram group post offering fake vax cert goes viral

Most premises now require proof of double vaccinations using the MySejahtera app, before allowing entry.

PETALING JAYA: A telegram group posting offering three different types of false vaccine certificates — including ones with scannable QR codes from the MySejahtera application — has gone viral.

Screenshots of the chatgroup found on social media show the various “packages” offered with different pricing.

Those interested can choose to pay RM1,500 for a vaccine certificate through the MySejahtera application using their own account with a scannable QR code, RM400 for a “clone” vaccine certificate using another person’s personal details, and RM200 for a fake vaccine card.

The telegram group, which also used to sell Ivermectin, an anti-parasite drug widely touted as a treatment for Covid-19, has 280 active members.

A spokesman at the health ministry told FMT the ministry was investigating the matter.

Previously, the ministry had said stern action would be taken against those attempting to falsify digital Covid-19 vaccine certificates.

There is believed to be a demand for such fake certificates from anti-vaxxers and those who have not received their vaccinations for various reasons.
