KUALA LUMPUR: The trial of 18 people accused of rioting outside a temple in Subang Jaya in 2018, which is linked to the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim three years ago, is scheduled to end tomorrow, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Home minister Hamzah Zainudin said two of the accused had been charged with committing mischief and had been fined RM7,000 each.
Hamzah, replying to RSN Rayer, MP for Jelutong, said 12 other cases had been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) for further action.
Rayer had demanded an explanation from Hamzah as to why no action had been taken against suspects linked to Adib’s death.
Adib had died at the National Heart Institute a month after being injured while on duty at the scene of a riot outside the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya in November 2018.
In 2019, the coroner’s court ruled that “more than two unidentified persons” had killed the fireman. In December, Hamzah had said that the investigation was in the final stages and the results of the investigation would be submitted to the AGC. - FMT
