PETALING JAYA: The transport ministry has denied claims of a new rule that school buses must paint the insides of the bumpers blue.
Existing regulations have not been changed in 34 years, said transport minister Wee Ka Siong in a statement today.
He said the authorities have never instructed school bus operators to paint the inside of their bumpers blue.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had claimed that he received complaints from school bus operators that the authorities had issued new rules on the paint for the inside of bumpers.
Lim had said such a move would burden operators as they would incur additional costs.
Wee, in denying Lim’s claims, said the existing regulations are still in place.
“The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has not made any amendments to the School Bus (Colours and Signs) Regulations 1987,” he said.
“According to these rules, all school buses must be painted amber with the words ‘BAS SEKOLAH’ painted in black.”
Wee urged Lim not to spread misinformation without evidence. - FMT
