Covid-19 (March 29): 15,215 new cases, 64 new deaths

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 15,215 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,167,418.

Active cases currently stood at 236,024, down 21.1 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (6,985)

Kuala Lumpur (1,434)

Negeri Sembilan (974)

Sarawak (828)

Johor (751)

Kedah (734)

Perak (701)

Penang (679)

Pahang (554)

Terengganu (403)

Kelantan (362)

Malacca (350)

Sabah (251)

Labuan (80)

Perlis (66)

Putrajaya (63)

Another 64 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which 14 were declared as 'brought in dead'.

Over the past week, an average of 53 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 74.4, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 34,906 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 2158 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 770 deaths last month and 491 deaths in January.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 1,055 deaths per one million population, and the fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

The state with the highest number of deaths was Perak (20) followed by Kedah (8), Selangor (7), Penang (6), Johor (5), Negeri Sembilan (4), Sarawak (4), Kelantan (3), Malacca (2), Pahang (2), Sabah (2) and Terengganu (1).

There are 4,843 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 282 are in intensive care. - Mkini
