DIVORCES are never wonderful unless it marks a turning point for someone to recover from a toxic spouse.
But in rare cases, an unamicable separation which involves the court could also lead to hilarious results.
In a viral post on X by netizen morello, a supposedly real case at the Syariah Court was highlighted.
According to the post, the wife demanded alimony worth RM80,000 in which the husband’s lawyer said, “Why so much?”
In reply, the wife said, “We have been married for 32 years, so it was only RM7.30 per day. Is that a lot?”
With viral contents such as these, expect the war of genders to ensue in the comment section, so let’s head over there to watch the show.
Netizen A Trader, who was likely a man, opened fire by asking if during the 32 years, the husband did not provide her with food.
Another member of Team Man, Amin said how was it possible to count like this, when during the length of 32 years, she was not obedient to the husband, or either fought back or not serving him?
Team Woman drew some blood through Ms Mimie A who said it was normal for a husband to provide for the wife, so it is no excuse to say she cannot demand payment even if he has provided for her for 32 years.
“There are husbands who are live monitor lizards, where the wife provides for his meal and also living space because the wife has a higher salary,” she said.
On another note, Nimie, who was sceptical, did some maths work to determine the legitimacy of the demand.
“Maybe the husband gave some alimony but it is not enough, and that there are some part where the wife paid first which the husband has yet to pay back. For example during the end of the month, the wife tops up first. The husband may think that the wife is helping him but in truth that is alimony, so the husband needs to pay back,” said Ivory.
Netizen Zulaikha said to those men who disagree, no one is stopping them from marrying many as poligami is not wrong.
“But please know that poligami comes with heavy responsibilities. Even in the reply, you can read that many are ignorant or naughty. Allah is angry of this,” she added. —Focus Malaysia
