A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped at a temporary relief centre (PPS) in Kota Bharu, Kelantan during the flood on Dec 2.
Sinar Harian reported Kelantan police chief Mohd Yusoff Mamat as saying that the incident occurred around 12.30am involving the girl and a 23-year-old construction worker.
The two had recently met at the PPS and were found together in a school storeroom repurposed as part of the relief centre.
“Their actions were discovered by the girl’s brother, prompting her family to lodge a police report,” he was quoted as saying.
The suspect was arrested on Dec 6 and remanded for six days to facilitate the investigation.
He was later charged in the Kota Bharu Sessions Court under Section 376 of the Penal Code but pleaded not guilty.
The court denied bail and scheduled the case for mention on Jan 14.
In addition to the rape case, Yusoff noted that six other crimes were reported during the floods, including housebreaking, vehicle theft, and molestation.
“Three housebreaking cases, one vehicle theft, and a molestation case occurred in Tumpat. Another housebreaking incident was reported in Pasir Mas,” he added. - Mkini
