PETALING JAYA: The government has imposed provisional anti-dumping duties ranging from 6.33% to 37.44% on imports of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) originating or exported from China and Indonesia, says the investment, trade and industry ministry.
Bernama reported the ministry as saying the duties shall be effective for no more than 120 days, beginning today.
It said this is necessary to prevent a negative impact on the domestic industry, following the completion of the preliminary determination of the anti-dumping duty investigation, as provided for under Section 23 of the Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Act 1993.
“The government has found sufficient evidence to continue further investigation into the importation of the merchandise from China and Indonesia.
“Therefore, the government has decided to impose provisional anti-dumping duties, guaranteed by a security equivalent to the amount of the dumping margins determined in the preliminary determination,” read a statement by the ministry.
The ministry said anti-dumping duty investigations into PET imports originating or exported from the said countries were initiated on Aug 9, 2024, following a petition by Recron (M) Sdn Bhd on behalf of the domestic industry.
The petitioner claimed PET imports originating or exported from these countries are being sold in Malaysia at prices lower than the selling price in their domestic markets, causing a negative impact on the domestic industry. - FMT
