PETALING JAYA
The ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition has turned down numerous invites to discuss a collaboration with Warisan for the upcoming state election, says party president Shafie Apdal.

The former chief minister was responding to rumours that negotiations between GRS and Warisan have been taking place on the quiet, Daily Express reported.

Shafie said he has sent countless invites to GRS to discuss the possibility of working with his party, but to no avail.

“What is the response I got from them? They said ‘no, we don’t want to work with Warisan’.

“It is up to them. But when I say let’s unite, I want to stress that we should not unite for the sake of greed, power or positions,” he told reporters at a Christmas party in Kepayan, yesterday.

Shafie said Sabahans need to be united to resolve the problems they are facing now. He pointed out that the state is “too slow and too far behind (other states)”.

It would be difficult to realise the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) if Sabahans are not united, he added.

According to Shafie, Sabah has the most number of political parties in the country. He said such a statistic only indicates division instead of unity.

He added that Sabah should also be free of the divisive rhetoric that is prevalent among peninsula-based parties.

On the state polls that will take place this year, Shafie said he is confident and that Warisan is well-prepared because the party is no newcomer.

“We will do whatever it takes to make sure Sabah is on the right track,” Shafie said.

He added that the people of Sabah must also be reminded about the problems they face in various areas, such as water and electricity supply, education as well as health. - FMT
